Distinctive Prepasted Wall Liner – Installation

Product Description

Distinctive Wall Liner is a problem solving product, specifically designed to cover and bridge paneling, cracked or damaged walls. It can be painted or wallpapered over. It is not necessary to use Wall Liner on walls that you are applying Premium Peel & Stick Canvas or Premium Fabric Wallcoverings. These products can be applied directly over paneling with grooves of 1/8”. The Wall Liner width is 27″.

If you are covering wall paneling that has an excessive number of vertical grooves, apply the Wall Liner horizontally. This will avoid the possibility of a seam falling on a panel groove.

Before installing Wall Liner, the paneling or wall surface must be primed, using a product such as Shieldz Universal Wallcovering Primer. Allow drying overnight. The wall liner is a strong bridging material that has paste embedded on the reverse side (no paste to buy and apply).

Soak in a water tray for 20 – 30 seconds (rolled up with the paste side out) and then fold paste side to paste side and leave for 3 – 4 minutes allowing the paste to activate and remain moist. Then hang butt joining the seams. Weight 280 GSM. Allow drying for 24 hours before painting or wallpapering over.

Tools Needed

Installation Instruction

Unwrap and roll out the Wall Liner.

  • Make sure that you have all the panels for your Wallcovering and ensure that they will cover the entire area per the measurements you supplied when ordering.
  • Lay panels flat for a few hours allowing them to uncurl.

Wall should be smooth and clean.

  • Sand any rough areas if necessary.
  • Turn off any electrical power outlets and remove plates.
  • Prime the wall or paneling using a product such as Shieldz Universal Wallcovering Primer.
  • Allow to dry overnight.

Roll up

  • Roll up the first panel, paste side out and submerge in a wallpaper tray filled with cold water for 20-30 seconds.
  • Remove from water and fold paste side to paste side and let sit for 3 – 4 minutes.
  • This allows the paste to fully activate.

Begin your installation

  • Begin your installation from the left wall corner and if it is not plumb (most are not!), draw a plumb line 26” out from the corner. (1” less than the width of your Wall Liner panel.)
  • Using a spirit level or plumb line mark a straight line down the wall to act as a right side guide when applying the first panel.
  • As you hang the first panel line up the right edge to this line.
  • The left edge can be pushed tight into the corner with a papering tool/scraper and trimmed with a knife.
  • It is important that this first panel is perfectly plumb! You can repeat the plumb lines across the wall at 27” spaces for additional guidance if necessary.

Folded Wall Liner

  • Open the folded Wall Liner, first at the top aligning the right edge with the plumb line and the top just above the ceiling line.
  • Use your papering tool to smooth out the Wall Liner starting at the ceiling and working down the wall from the middle out to the edges.
  • This will remove any surplus water and air bubbles.
  • Be sure to keep the papering tool clean at all times.
  • Use a damp sponge to finish the application wiping away any remaining water residue.

Install Remaining Panels

  • As you install the second and remaining panels, slide each left hand edge to but join and match the design.
  • Do not overlap the seams.
  • Smooth the Wall Liner surface as described in paragraph 5 above.

  • Trim top and bottom and around any framework
  • Ensure that the Wall Liner is pushed tight into the corners and edges with your papering tool before trimming the excess.
  • Steel rules or spatulas are ideal for neat and straight cuts.
  • Replace your knife blade often – a dull blade may tear the paper.

  • Repeat steps 4, 5, 6, and 7 to install your remaining panels.
  • If you need to reposition a strip, spray additional water on the wall as necessary.

Removal When You Re-Decorate

  • Spray the surface of the Wall Liner with water, and let sit for about 10 minutes allowing the water based adhesive to relax for easy removal.

  • Beginning at the top pull each panel of the Wall Liner back on itself at an angle until it is completely removed.
  • If the surface separates from the paper backing, spray more water and continue peeling it away from the wall, in some cases a scraper may be necessary.

Paste residue.

  • Use a damp sponge to remove any paste residue once removal is completed.

Priming the wall.

  • One of the advantages in priming the wall before you install wallcovering is that it makes removal much easier.
